Hello! And welcome to the unique world of NATAL astrology. "Natal" means 'birth.' This is also called a 'horoscope' or 'chart.'

What work do they do?

We are able to look at the month, day and year you were born (plus your time of birth and where you were born) and erect a natal chart. A natal chart is also known as your 'birth chart'. It is dyed and cast (blue-print) for this lifetime; your path that you wanted to take to learn things from as you grew up into an adult.

What does a natal astrologer do?

A natal astrologer can look at your natal chart and interpret the symbols (planets, aspects and signs). Every planet and every sign are interpolated into knowledge to help you to understand yourself. There are many facets to natal astrology and different 'slants' on it. Most natal astrologers are called natal counselors or astrology counselors. They want to help you to understand yourself. In understanding yourself, you will know your strengths and weaknesses. One of the many things an astrological counselor will do is talk to you about ways to go about changing anything unhealthy within yourself. Sometimes, that is through networking you to a professional person. Or, simply discussing it with you.

Can you tell me about my health? Whether I'll get a disease?

A natal astrologer is not versed in medicine or health issues. For that, you need a medical astrologer. We also suggest that most natal astrologers CANNOT find good surgery dates for a client either and strongly suggest to again, contact a medical astrologer, who can. Please see our Medical Astrology department for more on these items.

How can natal astrology help me?

We can look at your natal chart and know where POTENTIAL stresses or problems can raise their head. We also know how to network you to professionals to help you solve these issues, too. In natal astrology we believe that whatever is there, can be changed with proper attitude changes, emotional changes and the client eating and living a healthy lifestyle.

Can you tell me when I'm going to die?

Never. That is against our professional code of ethics. Let's face it: we are ALL going to die some day from some thing. It's just a question of what and when. We frequently see windows of crisis in a person's chart--but the free will choice of that person is there, too. We cannot, 100% of the time, know what the client will choose. So, we NEVER predict a death or when death will occur.

How do I use natal astrology?

In many ways!
Just to get to know yourself, your creativity, your strengths and how best to use the energies you have for this lifetime.
Unhappy in your job? Well, a natal astrologer can suggest careers that are more in keeping with the energies that are in your natal chart. We at Medicine Garden recommend either Rosemarie Brown or Gail Carswell.
Don't like where you live? Again, a natal astrologer can tell you where you will bloom and grow versus feeling as if a weight were on you and nothing but awful things happen to you all the time. It DOES make a difference where you live. Why not live where the energy is BEST for you and supports you in being all who you can be? Getting married? Believe me, there are good days for it and bad days. You don't want to start a marriage on a bad day, do you?
Starting a company? Wanting to attain your goals? Natal astrology can help in the timing of these things based upon your chart. There is a right time and a wrong time for such things--use natal astrology to know when it is best for you so you can be successful.
Sometimes people want a PROGRESSION. That requires hiring us at $100/hr to sit down and look at what is going on in your life in-depth. Will a natal astrologer tell me I'm going to get the disease, Cancer?

We get this question so often. Many people are afraid of cancer and we don't blame them. No natal astrologer worth her or his salt would EVER tell you something like this! It is immoral. While a medical astrologer can tell with great accuracy when a possible disease may strike you, we can't always say for sure WHAT disease it will be. They will have a pretty good 'feel' for it, but your own family and genetic background is your best indicator for whether the possibility of getting Cancer is there or not. Medical astrologers focus in on how to fix what is wrong by looking at your chart to suggest ways and means of getting you well once more. And a good natal astrologer, if your health is involved, will refer you out to a medical astrologer for help. Natal astrologers are not health professionals.

Can you tell me when I'm going to get pregnant?

Some natal astrologers can. And so can a medical astrologer. We do a lot of business with couples who have had problems getting pregnant. We can suggest weeks or months when it is best for the woman to conceive.

Can you tell me what kind of labor or birth I'll have?

Some natal astrologers can. To be on the safe side, we suggest you employ a medical astrologer to really answer this question. Medical astrologers do a lot of work with expectant mommies before the baby is born. We can tell by looking at the mother's chart as to what KIND of birth she is going to experience. We can warn her ahead of time if we see trouble and the mother, in turn, can tell the doctor so that everyone is aware and takes special precautions to protect the mother during the delivery phase.

Do you tell me what to do?

No, we don't. We see patterns and signatures set up in the planets, aspects and signs within a person's natal chart. They are possibilities. Our job is to reflect back to you what we see and then give you CHOICES that YOU CHOOSE. We never tell you what to do!

Do you work with other professionals?

Yes, we do. Most natal astrologers have a network list of professionals in many areas so that they are available to the client to choose from. Sometimes a client will need psychotherapy. The natal astrologer may recommend this and its up to the client to decide whether or not they want to do it.

So, you're not going to tell me when I'm going to die or if I'm prone to Cancer?

That's right! Our job, as we see it, is to get you in touch with yourself; to know who you are... you possibilities, your strengths and creative abilities. We have no interest in scaring you or making you fear us. We don't make those kinds of pronouncements. No one in their right mind would! Instead, we will look at you, your emotions, your environment, your upbringing, your hopes/dreams and goals and create a plan of health so that you can stretch your wings in this lifetime and achieve them. After all, knowledge educates you to make your most informed (and we hope, most positive) decisions. Natal astrologers are there to serve you in this capacity.

Ive known a little of this info for some time now, but this post certainly cleared up some missconceptions I had personally...and its all about learning, every day !!!

Once you create a natal chart, how do you know what all the lines and symbols mean?

Im still learning My self...sorry, i was very couriouse as to what it was also, and when I started to read it, i became even more interested...when I figure it all out, ill post here with some explinations...its quite the subject and has alot of components to sift through...sorry I couldnt be of more help

you will need to learn how to delineate the symbols. it is an ancient language, so you will have to learn how to speak it, then convert it to English, as best as possible. I can point you in the right direction if you like, just let me know

I create natal charts by hand, all the calculations are done in pen.. it is old school, and time consuming, but is much more accurate than most computer models. There are some variables that have to be corrected with time as well, but basically you need an ephimeris, and a book of tables.

It is best to learn the symbols, signs, houses, and the aspects made by the planets meanings, before learning to create a horoscope though

It's cool Dozzer! The info you posted has been very helpful along with the website I generated youth reading for my munchkins and a compatibility reading on my fiance and I - it's amazing how accurate they were, everything was spot on. I also generated a natal chart for myself which didn't look as complicated as the one above - it only had a few lines - but I'm sure it's still pretty complicated anyway

I would love to learn how to translate an ancient language to English, MZ it must have taken a lot of studying to learn how to create the charts by hand and interpret them! I've always been interested in astrology, tarot readings, psychics, etc and every so often I'll read up on a topic or method and try it out so I know the basics of the signs, a little more about reading tarot cards and have a lot of practice quieting my mind and opening myself to whatever the answers are. I would definitely be interested in any websites or info on the ancient language or interpreting the charts - thanks!

It is best to learn the symbols, signs, houses, and the aspects made by the planets meanings, before learning to create a horoscope though:MZ

Bingo, each house have a planetary ruler and is a different aspect of your life
just like each zodiacal sign is ruled by a planet ex leo by the sun, the king as the planets rotate around them, or ex aries and mars.
then you can see where your planets are in the houses for example jupiter in the house of cancer, and combining influences, moon in sagittarius, but also house.
Your first house is your sun sign but you also have an ascendant which influences what your personality is like
To look at relationships look at the governing houses and the planets there, but also placement of your mars and venus.
Your karma and past life info is the north and south node or ketu and rada
A very complex and deep subject but that is an overview

something sneaky mz said was symbols of both your zodiac and what the planetary symbol looks like has deep meaning, for example the sun is a dot in a circle, the magician in a circle of art, a ray of light/line/wand/fire brojected from the creator. for example aquarius looks like wavy lines of water, but is an air sign, and that is projections of energy, wavelengths of air/spirit.
