Why would I want to grow my own edible mushrooms?

Many people do not realize how valuable mushrooms can be as a nutritious food source as well as a powerful medicine. There is many important reasons to grow your own mushrooms but the most popular is for food. Mushrooms are an interesting food group as they are not considered a true vegetable. Without roots, leaves, or seeds they can grow with minimal light and sometimes in complete darkness. Mushrooms grow wild all over the world and have been honored in many food cultures since back to ancient Egypt, considered a delicacy for royalty.

When they are cooked fresh mushrooms offer the most nutritional benefit versus the canned version found in grocery stores.
